“The densest population settlement in Trinidad and Tobago is located in the Caroni Basin. The basin is located between the northern range and central range in Trinidad. The area is considered vulnerable to climate change and sea level rise and is home to many species of wildlife, critical life-sustaining facilities and main reserves of surface and groundwater. Large population settlements are located just at the foothills of the northern fringe in Trinidad. A combination of erodable soils and inadequately constructed homes make the areas particularly vulnerable to storm activity. The island is not frequently impacted by hurricanes, but projections for more intense systems could pose serious threats to these areas.”
